I have set up both x3.3.6 and x4.01 on a compaq presario 12xl223 laptop with
cyberblade/i1 chipset and 13.3" 1024x768 screen.

X4 runs much much faster than X3.3.x so I suggest getting X4.

anyways, you need to use the linux framebuffer device in order to get it to
work properly. Although it is unnacellerated, it is much faster than
XF86_SVGA server, or trident driver(X4), that is, if you can get them to
work.

anyways, I wrote a page about running linux on the compaq 12xl line of
laptops. Which can be located here: http://members.home.net/dpeterkin
bye the way, it's a crappy page, but I don't have no time to make a decent
one.
