Subject: Handhelds for Linux devt/experimentation?

Hi
I'm looking for a handheld for experimenting with Linux. Before anyone
suggests a Libretto, I have a 100CT which runs Debian and goes with me
whenever I'm carrying a bag, but I'm looking for something even smaller
and more portable. I'm also intersted in playing with non-keyboard
input.
Both <URL:http://www.pocketlinux.org/> and
<URL:http://www.handhelds.org/> have a lot of stuff about the Compaq
iPAQ 3600 series, but these are really hard to get hold of at present,
and I can't see the point of colour on an ultra-portable. So I was
thinking about the mono iPAQ 3100 series
<URL:http://www5.compaq.com/products/handhelds/pocketpc/index3100.html>
which is a lot cheaper and which is -- more importantly -- actually
available. Has anyone yet got Linux up on one of these? Any comments?
Finally, what about the VTech Helio? It's half the price of even the
mono iPAQ <URL:http://www.myhelio.com/cgi-bin/vtechhelio.storefront>
The pictures I've seen, the screen doesn't look very clear, and the
actual usable area is very small. Is it workable in practice? Is it
robust enough to be nice to use?
Finally, are there any others which I ought to consider?
Thanks!
