I use the same graphics card, Trident Cyberblade, as you.
I had the same problem after I first installed Linux Mandrake. When I
started KDE
or when I set up the graphics during installation it took forever, well at
least five
minutes for the computer to finish.
I went back to setting up X (using the command Xconfigurator at the prompt)
and selected Generic LCD display 800x600 and the lowest resolution. After
that
it works fine (well, I have more problems with linux but the graphics works
OK)
